Ms. Val's Bargain of the Week
This week's bargain is an item I bought last year--the Fiesta egg plate. I refer to this as one of my "pity purchases" because I bought it during Quinton's lenghty hospitalization. During this time, I often used online shopping as a way to quelch my nighttime loneliness. It was either that or binge on Baskin Robbins chocolate and peanut butter ice cream. And I decided that I'd rather be broke than fat.
Anyway, I bought the plate during the early days of the Betty Crocker catalog's going-out-of-business sale. The price of the egg plate had gone down to $14.99 (regular retail was around $40). At that price, color choices were diminishing fast.
I decided on the Seamist color for several reasons. For starters, I felt it would complement the yellow, white, and paprika red in deviled eggs. It would also look nice on an Easter table. Also, at that point, the only things I had in Seamist--which had just become retired--were a 4-piece place setting and an individual creamer.
Besides, the egg plates were already sold out in Cobalt.
Today was the first time the egg plate got used. Q--always looking for reasons to make a special meal or treat--made deviled eggs for our Super Bowl snack. They'll probably be gone by halftime.

LOL! You are so funny! I love it!
hey, nice new avatar!
i love special plates for deviled eggs. i have a favorite i use whenever i can find an excuse to serve them. jb says deviled eggs should be limited to spring and summer, but i served them at a christmas party and they went like hotcakes.
take care, val!
Lovely! I have yet to use mine, though I do hear you can pour brownie batter into the cups and make egg-shaped brownies for Easter.
Menchie: Well, it's the truth!!!!
KJ: I notice that deviled eggs are a big hit at every party I attend. No matter what season it is.
Christopher: The egg-shaped brownies sound delicious, but how long do you leave them in the oven? I'm not finding recipe instructions for this way of making brownies.
Oh, I haven't got a clue. Someone posted about it on Medium Green when the egg plates first came out (that or I heard it at the 2005 conference...who knows?).
By the way, where did you get that hot new avatar? I love it!
Christopher: As far as the egg tray brownies, I'll figure it out on my own. I can keep checking the oven.
As for the avatar, I went to one of those zwinky banner ads they always have on MySpace. Mine is probably one of the plainer avatars that has ever been make there because I didn't want to look like a Pokemon character or a streetwalker.
So are you saying I need to go out and get an egg plate? Something I had (not surprisingly) never heard of before?
WW: The only reason you should buy an egg plate is a) if you want one, b) if you need one, and--perhaps most importantly--c) you find one at a giveaway price.
